13 December 2024 is the effective date of the new legislation on general product safety (General Product Safety Regulation, or GPRS). It repeals the previous regulation and introduces a number of new solutions.

What’s worth noting?

GPSR is designed to ensure the safety of all products bought by consumers, including children, senior citizens and people with disabilities.

New duties on businesses:

  • Pre-marketing risk analysis and hazard assessment.
  • Technical documentation with product description and risk analysis results.
  • Clear and comprehensible product safety information for consumers.
  • Labelling that ensures identification of the product and manufacturer/importer.
  • Product conformity monitoring all across the supply chain.
  • Dangerous product information via Safety Business Gateway.

New consumer protections:

  • A mechanism for charge-free reporting of hazards and complaints via Safety Gate Portal.
  • Safety regulations for products sold remotely or on-line, including used and reconditioned products.

Why is it important?

GPSR imposes more restrictive safety requirements that will affect manufacturers, importers and distributors. Now is an ideal time to verify whether your products comply with the new law.
